Lessons with Glenn 2021

I’m so excited to share with you the changes I’m putting in place for my students this year. I truly believe that my students will thrive and progress faster than ever with this new and innovative approach to traditional lessons. I tried this out with a few students in 2020. It worked great and the lockdown showed us all we can do things in different ways. Some of the things in lockdown were better and some were worse.

This approach takes the best of both worlds.

This year, in person lessons with me at our Caves Beach studio will be fortnightly.

The alternative week you will receive on your personalised webpage a video tutorial and exercises to do, which we will go over the following week at our face to face lesson.

Twice a term you will have a group theory lesson at our studios. From time to time, also, we will organise performance and collaboration opportunities too. Either in a band, a duet or a recording.

As a music teacher with 30 years experience (my first student was when I was 13 – I helped a HSC student) and a musician that has worked extremely hard to play at the highest level, I know that this structure will greatly increase the benefit to your’s or your child’s learning. Usually you craft this kind of learning together yourself. Get a good teacher, find a band, supplement with your own research online etc. But this is all done for you, by someone who has been there, made a stack of mistakes and learnt from them and done it himself.

Here’s the benefits in summary.

  • One on one private lessons are the best lessons for any music student. Weekly lessons are great, but are not essential and come with some limitations that groups and online lessons offer. If not enough practise has been done, for example, weekly lessons can be a waste of time and money. Sometimes two weeks are needed between sessions. Enough time to make some progress but not too long so momentum is lost or bad habits form.
  • Online lessons are accessible 24/7. In real life, I’m not accessible all day every day. I can’t answer that musical question you have until our next lesson. If you forget what we said in a lesson, then it’s gone forever. Online websites and videos are there for whenever you forget or need them.
  • Most music schools offer just in person lessons or just online with no option for personalised lessons at all. With this change, you still get face to face lessons and receive all the benefits of that and get all the benefits of the online lessons too.
  • Groups lessons are of great value too, but come at the cost of usually not having personalised face to face lessons. Having group theory lessons and more regular opportunities to play jazz or duets or for singers to team up with guitarist is a huge win for the students.
  • A combination of online, in person and group lessons will give the student the environment they need to thrive in their musical journey. You are now really enrolling in a music school and not just having some guitar or piano lessons.
  • This is all cheaper than what you are already paying!

The cost for 2021 for enrolling in these classes is

$19 per week for a fortnightly 20 minute private lesson, fortnightly online tutorial and 2 group theory lessons per term.
$25 per week for a fortnightly 30 minute private lesson, fortnightly online tutorial and 2 group theory lessons per term.
$31 per week for a fortnightly 40 minute private lesson, fortnightly online tutorial and 2 group theory lessons per term.

Lastly, to help students progress even further I am implementing a practise contract this year. You can download the view/print the contract here to bring to your lesson.

We know this is not going to work for everyone, especially those that are young, and lessons with our other teachers are continuing as they were in 2020. This maybe an option for you.
My new online lessons only option for piano is at ReadySetPiano.Com and that may be right for you too.

2021 is going to be great. I look forward to seeing and hearing from you all very soon.

All the best,
Glenn

  3. Hi Glenn, I’m liking the sound of your new schedule of learning for 2021. I’d like to book Zed in for a 30 minute private lesson/fortnight with you, please, with the online tutorial on the off-week. Also looking forward to the group theory lessons. Happy to sign a practice contract but it was not apparent to my technically-challenged eye how to find & print that out. Also I’m thinking it best if Zed concentrates on just piano with you with this new formula so I’m wondering if one of your boys might be available to give him drum lessons? Should we come at the usual time this Thursday (5.40pm) for Zed’s first private piano lesson? Hope you’ve been able to get some much-needed R & R over the break – although it looks like you’ve been doing a lot of thinking/planning 🙂

    1. Awesome Sue. I’ll message you and I think Josh would be great to Zed drums
